Background:
Dr. Merrill is the current Chief of the Northeast Asia Division of the Bureau of Intelligence and Research at the U.S. Department of State and a Professorial Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. He has held teaching and research positions at Georgetown University, George Washington University, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Lafayette College, Korea University, and the University of Delaware.
